The Stage: Su Pollard in Side By Side

stage15aExclusive: Su Pollard to lead cast of Side by Side by Sondheim

Su Pollard is to star in a London revival of Side by Side by Sondheim.

The Hi-de-Hi! actor will appear in the revue show that celebrates the work of Stephen Sondheim at the Jack Studio Theatre in south London from September 8 to 26. Press night is September 11.

Side by Side by Sondheim features songs from shows such as Company, Gypsy and Follies, and was last performed in London in 2007 at the Venue, now called the Leicester Square Theatre.

The cast also includes Marianne Benedict, who appeared in Women On the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown, and Grant McConvey. It is being narrated by one of the show’s original creators, Stuart Pedlar, who is also the musical director.

Su Pollard will star in a revival of Side By Side By Sondheim at the Jack Studio Theatre in September.

Directed by Elliot Clay, the 1976 revue-style show is a celebration of the work of composer Stephen Sondheim.

Pollard’s stage and television credits include Me and My Girl, Shout! and Hi-de-Hi. She’ll be joined by Marianne Benedict (Women On The Verge of a Nervous Breakdown, The Wizard of OZ, We Will Rock You) and Grant McConvey (Sondheim Society Student Performer of the Year).

TV favourite Su Pollard leads the cast of the 2015 London revival of Side By Side By Sondheim. Su Pollard has enjoyed a career spanning over 40 years, including notable appearances on the West End in Me and My Girl, SHOUT! and on television in The Royal Variety Show.

She first captured the nation’s hearts as Peggy, the downtrodden chalet maid, in Hi-de-Hi, appearing in the hit BBC sitcom for nine series. Su then went on to become a household name, entertaining audiences with numerous appearances on television and stage, alongside a UK No.2 single Starting Together.

Su is thrilled at this point in her career to be celebrating the work of Stephen Sondheim this September at the Jack Studio Theatre, and to be performing some of his most iconic songs, including I’m Still Here, Getting Married Today and the legendary Send In The Clowns.
