The period between Christmas and New Year can feel a little strange, and you may want to get out of the house if you’ve spent days watching the telly with mince pies.

The children are on their school holidays, and parents may be looking for ways to keep them entertained for the rest of the break. From ice skating to pantomimes, we have put together a list of family days out suggestions for the quiet period between Christmas and New Year.

Kent Live: Christmas Light Switch On 2016 in Crowborough

kentlive16aThe countdown to Christmas has officially started in Crowborough after the town’s big light switch on event last week.

The Crowborough Christmas Cracker saw stilt walkers, glow jugglers and cheeky elves take over the High Street on Friday, November 25.

Hi De Hi star Su Pollard, who plays the wicked queen in the Tunbridge Wells Christmas pantomime, delighted the crowds after she officially switched on the festive lights in the town.

Caroline Miles, Crowborough Town Council events manager, said: “It was one of the most successful events so far this year with a record turnout. The weather was completely on our side and the streets were heaving with people”.

“Su pollard was a great hit, she is one of our most popular celebrities to ever turn on our lights”.

Kent Live: Tunbridge Wells Christmas Lights Switch On

The wet and windy weather did not stop the people of Tunbridge Wells turning out in their hundreds to witness the Christmas lights switch on.

Festive fun for all the family began at 3pm today (November 17) when the stars of the town panto boarded an open-top bus outside the Assembly Hall Theatre in Crescent Road.

The rain stopped for a brief period as characters from Snow White And The Seven Dwarfs proceeded on a tour of Tunbridge Wells to wave at residents.

Su Pollard, who is playing the Wicked Queen in the panto, said: “I’ve just got off the open-top bus and it was a little bit blustery, but what I did not realise was all the branches from the trees nearly took our heads and wigs off!”

Kent Live: The Snow White Pantomime

snowwhite16jThe Snow White pantomime will entertain Tunbridge Wells crowds this Christmas

Snow White and her seven dwarfs will be heading to Tunbridge Wells this Christmas for the annual pantomime.

The performance featuring Su Pollard and Jamie Rickers will be running at the Assembly Hall Theatre from Friday, December 9, until Monday, January 2 2017.

Su Pollard, famous for playing the loveable Maplin’s chalet maid Peggy Ollerenshaw in Hi-De-Hi! is headlining as the Wicked Queen. A veteran pantomime performer, Su has appeared on various TV shows including Benidorm and Loose Women, and also started in You Rang M’Lord and Oh, Doctor Beeching!
