The Graven Image. (Series 5, Episode 5). Joe Maplin orders the unveiling of a statue of himself at the camp. Problems arise when Spike gets very drunk and decides to liven up the statue on the night before the unveiling ceremony.

Together Again. (Series 6, Episode 1). It is 1960 – a new season at Maplin’s Holiday Camp is about to commence. The staff arrive by train to prepare the camp for holiday makers.

Charity Begins At Home. (Series 1, Episode 5). Ted gets the Yellowcoats involved in his latest fiddle – the Campers Amenity Fund, meanwhile Jeffrey comes across two old people who are suffering from a case of very bad luck.

No Dogs Allowed. (Series 1, Episode 6). Jeffrey is left with a large dog to look after. All pets being banned from Maplin’s he has to break in and try to keep it secretly in his chalet.

If Wet – In the Ballroom. (Series 2, Episode 1). The staff are at their wits’ end trying to amuse the campers. Rain has been tumbling down for days and they have practically exhausted their repertoire of indoor amusements.

Peggy’s Big Chance. (Series 2, Episode 2). Peggy has a burning ambition to become a Yellowcoat. Jeffrey arranges an interview, meanwhile Ted is planning a pool wheeze but needs somebody to be the shark.

David Croft and Jimmy Perry had the midas touch when it came to comedy writing, and by the end of the 1970s, with Dad’s Army having finished and It Ain’t Half Hot Mum coming to a close, the pair were looking for a new project. The duo had both worked at Butlins holiday camp – Perry as a redcoat and Croft as a show producer. It was these shared experiences that gave life to one of the BBC’s top comedies of the 1980s, Hi-de-hi!

Once again having the foresight to set their programme at a particular time in the past, Croft and Perry’s latest offering brought together a ragtag collection of failed individuals to a fictitious holiday camp in 1959 – Maplins…

A camper tries to bribe the entertainments manager, while steps are taken to stop the camp host from celebrating his birthday every two weeks in order to get presents from the campers. Starring: Simon Cadell, Paul Shane, Jeffrey Holland, Ruth Madoc, Felix Bowness, Diane Holland.

The Partridge Season. (Series 1, Episode 3). The classic comedy series set at Maplin’s Holiday Camp in 1959. The Punch and Judy man gets drunk and everyone tries to cover up for him to keep the senior staff in ignorance. The Day of Reckoning. (Series 1, Episode 4). The classic comedy series set at Maplin’s Holiday Camp in 1959. Ex-jockey Fred Quilly once took a bribe to fix a race, but failed to keep the horse from winning. Now he is convinced that the betting gang have tracked him down and are out for revenge. Starring: Simon Cadell, Paul Shane, Ruth Madoc, Su Pollard, Jeffrey Holland, Felix Bowness.

Save Our Heritage. (Series 5, Episode 2). When a local cottage is faced with with destruction and it’s owner threatened with eviction to make way for an extension to the camp Jeffrey is incensed and rallies the staff into thwarting Joe Maplin’s plans.

The Society Entertainer. (Series 4, Episode 4). Jeffrey decides that a change of voice on Radio Maplin would be a good idea. In the meantime Spike meets a femme fetale which results in a dramatic change in his outlook. Ted however has other ideas.

Sing You Sinners. (Series 4, Episode 5). Owing to the departure of the local vicar, Jeffrey finds himself conducting the Sunday half-hour. Needless to say he makes a hash of it.

All Change. (Series 4, Episode 7). Joe Maplin appoints a supervisor of all Yellowcoats who requires a chalet all to herself, which throws the accomodation situation into chaos. She also takes an immediate like to Gladys and demotes her.

A Matter Of Conscience. (Series 3, Episode 3). The local council decides to build a hospital next to Maplin’s Holiday Camp. Joe Maplin instructs the staff to thwart their plan by making as much noise as possible.

Hi-de-Hi!: Drama: Tuesday 24th April: 1.40pm/6pm
The Pay-Off. (Series 3, Episode 4). The local council are still determined to build the hospital next to Maplin’s. Joe sends a shoebox full of money to Jeffrey with instructions that he is to bribe the four councillors.

Hi-de-Hi!: Drama: Wednesday 25th April: 1.40pm/6pm
Trouble and Strife. (Series 3, Episode 5). Ted Bovis’s ex-wife turns up at the camp demanding the arrears of her maintenance. She has in tow a bailiff who presents Ted with a writ. Failure to pay could result in prison for Ted. He is forced to resort to all the fiddles he can remember in order to raise the money.

Stripes. (Series 3, Episode 6). After a secret visit to the camp, Joe Maplin decides that Gladys should be put in charge of the Yellowcoats.

Co-Respondent’s Course. (Series 4, Episode 1). Jeffrey Fairbrother’s wife sends her new boyfriend to ask Jeffrey for a divorce.  Since the professor is unwilling to co-operate he starts to dig for evidence.

Saturday 21 April at 5pm, 5:40pm and 6:20pm

This is one of the great British sitcoms from the writing team of Jimmy Perry and David Croft (who also gave us Dad’s Army), recreating the chaotic fun of a seaside holiday camp in the 1950s. There are some memorable characters in this show, including the fearsome Chief Yellowcoat Gladys Pugh (played by Ruth Madoc), the scatty chalet maid Peggy Ollerenshaw (Su Pollard) and Jeffrey Fairbrother (Simon Cadell), the Cambridge professor turned entertainment manager who struggles to resist Gladys’s amorous advances. In tonight’s episodes, Peggy gets her big chance to be a Yellowcoat and Jeffrey thinks the campers deserve some culture.

Louth Leader: Actress Su Pollard Says ‘Hi-de-Hi’ to Louth

lleader18aBest known for her role as Peggy Ollerenshaw in popular BBC TV show ‘Hi-de-Hi’, actress Su Pollard came to Louth today, (Monday), to help Louth Riverhead Theatre promote their upcoming production of the hit programme in March. Su certainly stood out in her brightly coloured clothing and had a very cheery disposition as she visited NT Shaw of Louth who sponsor the theatre.

The car dealership has gone all out to promote the upcoming ‘Hi-de-Hi’ performance, splashing the news of the upcoming show all over one of their vehicles.

With the actress’s mum living just down the road in Sutton on Sea, Su said it was the ideal opportunity to come to Louth and meet some of the cast. She said: “It’s been lovely to be here in Louth today and meet the riverhead theatre cast who are putting on Hi-de-Hi.“I have got some great memories from the show and it’s something that will always be very close to my heart and I have no regrets.”
