Standard Issue Podcast: Omielan, Millican, Garofalo and Pollard

November 8th, 2018

standardissue18aThe episode of Standard Issue which included Su as a guest, recorded earlier this year at the Edinburgh Festival 2018, is now available as a podcast…

In this gigcast, we got Hannah Dunleavy, Sarah Millican, Luisa Omielan, Janeane Garofalo and Su Pollard onstage to see what would happen. Crikey. There’s tit-covering trousers, a dearth of condoms, a blast of Madonna and a frankly hilarious bum story. We recorded this gigcast back in August in Edinburgh at The Stand Comedy Club as part of our Edinburgh Fringe run. It was even more deliciously bonkers than we expected. And we’re the people who decided to get Su Pollard and Janeane Garofalo in the same room.

On the only day Su’s play Harpy wasn’t playing at The Edinburgh Fringe – Monday 13th August – Su appeared in ANOTHER show… Sarah Millican’s! – In Conversation with The Standard Issue.

What’s that, our Sarah Millican’s only show at the Edinburgh Fringe this year is alongside Luisa Omielan, Su Pollard and Janeane Garofalo? Of course it is!

It’s Halloween: Su on Desert Island Discs (Sort Of!)

October 31st, 2018

did11aIn Halloween week 2011, Mark Gatiss, of The League Of Gentlemen, Doctor Who and Sherlock fame, guested on BBC Radio 4′s Desert Island Discs. One of Mark’s choices as a desert island disc was Su’s version of ‘Come To Me (I Am Woman)’. Whether he was being post-ironic or whatever we’re not sure. Anyone who has viewed Victory of the Daleks knows Mark has a terrific sense of humour.

ctm11aKirsty Young’s castaway is the writer and actor Mark Gatiss.

His childhood passions have fuelled his adult creative life. As a boy he says he was drawn towards the macabre and gothic – while his teachers remarked that his school essays resembled scripts for Hammer horror films. He has written for – and acted in – Dr Who, was one of the creators of The League of Gentlemen and his re-imagining of Sherlock Holmes for a contemporary TV audience was a huge success.

He says: “When I was a kid, anything supernatural drew me, I would try and find it in anything – Gardeners’ Question Time – I would look for something.”

• Listen to Mark Gatiss’ Desert Island Discs at ‘BBC iPlayer’, here. Apparently the programme is available to listen to until 1st January 2099.

Pollard made her name on Hi-De-Hi! and went on to star in other BBC sitcoms like Oh Doctor Beeching! and You Rang M’Lord? But Pollard is taking on a dramatic role in her first Fringe show Harpy, about a woman who is ostracised by her neighbours due to her hoarding.
