A new interview with Su, published by the Dundee Courier, ahead of the final three performances of the Ha Ha Hood! tour.
Su Pollard teams up with Cannon and Ball for side-splitting romp Ha Ha Hood! And The Prince of Leaves
Su Pollard is a comedy icon who needs no introduction.
The Nottingham-born actress cut her comedy chops on hit BBC sitcom Hi-de-Hi as scatty chalet maid Peggy and cemented her camp credentials with You Rang, M’lord and Oh, Doctor Beeching.
These days, Su is a musical theatre and pantomime heroine and her latest show, Ha Ha Hood! And The Prince of Leaves, which also stars comedy duo Cannon and Ball, plays Dundee Rep on Saturday night. Taking on the role of Maid Marian, Nottinghamshire’s feistiest female, Su’s world-weary Marian is definitely more matron than maid!
Here Su shares her First and Lasts with The Courier…

Su was interviewed by Richard Crowley on BBC Radio Wiltshire towards the end of October: It was great fun meeting the effervescent Su Pollard at the Wyvern Theatre. She was promoting her nationwide tour of Ha Ha Hood – Listen by clicking below.
Su also paid tribut to the late, great, Lynda Bellingham during her chat with Richard – Listen here.
I’m never going to retire says Regent bound Ha Ha Hood star Su Pollard
Comedy legend Su Pollard talks to entertainment writer Wayne Savage about new family show Ha Ha Hood, her career and a lack of good writing
Corpsing, cock-ups, confusion over where she is, who plays who, enemas; I was still laughing long after my chat with Ha Ha Hood Prince of Leaves star Pollard had finished. “I’m in, where are we now… Rhyl tonight. You do (lose track), it’s ridiculous. Two days ago we were only in Shrewsbury but it feels like a week ago.”
The appropriately Nottingham-born actress, famous for sit-coms like Hi-de-Hi and You Rang, M’lord, makes for a perfect menopausal Maid Marian alongside Tommy Cannon, Bobby Ball, writer Ben Langley and Andy Pickering.

Famed for her role as scatty chalet maid Peggy in hit BBC sitcom Hi-de-Hi, Su is a comedy legend who needs no introduction. The Nottingham-born lass is set to appear at the Wyvern Theatre this November in Ha Ha Hood, a hilarious re-imagining of the classic tale.
What attracted you to the part of Maid Marion?
I was really excited about what I could do with the character. I’d seen some of Ben’s work before and he always puts a quirky slant on a classic story. I was a bit concerned before though, I worried that she’d be a drip that just followed Robin Hood around like some female sop. But she’s got balls this one, she’s quite feisty and gives Robin a right run for his money.
What’s your favourite thing about performing in the show?
We all have a fabulous time together, it’s unlike anything that I’ve ever done before because it mixes so many genres and performance styles together. I get to sing, I get to dance and I get to tell a joke or two. It’s basically practising for panto, which is marvelous.

Comic performer and actor Ben Langley, chatted to us about the latest instalment of the hilarious Ha Ha series; Ha Ha Hood.
Where did the inspiration for the show come from?
I take a lot of my inspiration from the 80s and old BBC sitcoms, the idea is to write a piece that plays to the cast’s strengths.
How would you describe your version of Robin Hood?
It’s a great night out, it’s got everything in it that you’d want from a piece of theatre, it’s got drama, it’s got variety, it’s got singing, it’s got dancing; it’s the perfect parody really.

Once again the Ha Ha clan roll around to Birmingham, with the usual barrel of laughs and ludicrousness. Written, directed by and featuring Ben Langley each year stars a different comedy personality – this year Hi-De-Hi’s Su Pollard is Maid Marion and it also features Cannon and Ball – temporarily without Ball. Poor Bobby, consigned to bed on doctors orders means that for the time being, an understudy – who’s name they did say… (Peter? Could be Paul…) steps in – and does a marvellous job.
Set 10 years after the story we’re familiar with we find Maid Marion, divorced from Robin, is now a colonic irrigation specialist – I bet when you bought your tickets you never thought it would be to see Su Pollard giving someone an enema? She does also sing a rather spectacular song to the tune of Nessun Dorma, with lyrics made up of an Indian food order… she excels her comedy credentials and it brings down the house.
