Britain's Funny Girl Swans In
Su Pollard, voted
one of Britain's funniest women and the toast of
London's theatre scene, is in Perth with her
Australian husband Peter Keogh.
She popped into
the Playhouse this week to meet Simon Phillips,
director of the popular Great Expectations,
who is currently doing Trumpets And
Raspberries.
Su, a fan of
Dario Fo, wanted to make certain she could see
the show while she was in WA.
Simon returned
to Perth from an Australian Elizabethan Theatre
Trust scholarship in London to direct Trumpets.
Su is on her
way to Sydney as the guest of the Pied Piper
Committee who will give the proceeds of their
biggest fund-raising event, The Laurent
Perrier Flower Ball to the Spastic Centre of
NSW.
She will be
guest of honour at the $85-a-head event at the
Intercontinental Hotel's James Cook Ballroom.
Asked what she
was going to wear the ebullient Su said she had
been given the run of the showroom by Sydney
designer Christopher Essex.
"I'm going
to pick something outrageous ." said Su. Her
choice of clothes for a daytime outing in Perth
were black satin leotard, a silver lame jacket,
one earring which must have weighed a ton, and
spectacles which spelt "look".

First Record Her net bracelets were made of shocking
pink tulle.
Su rose to fame
in the top rating television comedy series Hi
De Hi! playing Peggy, the whacky chalet maid.
She then topped the bill for the West End
production of Me And My Girl.
To coincide
with her visit, Su has just released her first
record in Australia entitled You've Lost That
Loving Feeling.
She met Peter,
who used to be front-of-house manager at the
Playhouse, while he was in the UK two years ago.
He taught during the days and was a stage hand at
night.
She left for
Sydney yesterday to be the belle of the ball.
Televiewers will see her on the Ray Martin
Midday Show and Hey Hey It's Saturday.
She is returning to Perth in January for a one
week season at Romano's.
Thanks to Peter Keogh for this article.
