In 1987, after
the hit single 'Starting Together' had
opened the public's ears to the fact that
she could sing, Su toured the UK in The
Su Pollard Show.
The tour was a great success and
audience reaction inspired Su to create
something special as a follow up - her
own one-woman-show.

And so, the intriguing and
vaguely naughtily titled, A Song, A
Frock and A Tinkle was premiered at
the Donmar Warehouse soon after.
The show received rave reviews
and surpirsed many who had previously
only saw Su as Peggy, the ambitious
chalet maid, from Hi-De-Hi!

After the sell-out Donmar
Warehouse performance Su subsequently
took A Song, A Frock and A Tinkle
on a national tour of the UK, visiting
many major cities along the way.
The one-woman-show was a mix of
songs, Su-style comedy, jokes and
anecdotes, and lots of chat. Plus some
audience participation thrown in for good
measure. It couldn't fail.
The set comprised of an eclectic
mix of old show tunes, musical standards,
hit singles, and a few of Su's personal
favourites. Su memorably opened the show
with 'Let's Hear It For Me' and then
proceeded to take her bow, bid everyone
"good night", and march off
into the wings.

Only to return to the stage
moments later; "It's not the end, is
it?" Su asked sheepishly to much
laughter and cheers from the audience. It
most certainly was not! Su went on to
entertain, enthrall, and amuse everyone
in attendance, as only Su can, for well
over two hours.
Jokes were cracked; "What's
the difference between Su Pollard and an
umbrella?, You can shut an umbrella up!"
'I'm On My Way', 'People', and 'The
Healthiest Girl I Know' were all musical
highlights from the first act of the show.
And Su rounded the first section off with
a stunning version of 'The Lady Is A
Tramp'.

Act II began with the classic
'You Never Done It Like That' and 'Crazy
World', and continued with lots more chat
and fun - oh and a song or two too.

Su then demanded a bit of
audience participation and wheeled on a
huge screen of singalong words on the
offchance that someone didn't know the
words.
And all too soon it was over,
with Su closing the show with the trilogy
of 'Starting Together', 'I Think I Like
You' and 'My Memories'.
All that was left was for Su to
be presented with a huge bunch of
flowers, to, this time for real, take her
final bow, and exit stage left!

The fond memories of Su's A
Song, A Frock and A Tinkle still
linger for Su and her fans some fifteen
years after the event. Who knows, maybe
one day she will relaunch her one-woman-show
on an unsuspecting Su public! If there is
a possibility of this, be sure that
SuOnline will let you know first - watch
this space closely!!
